*********

Jason Cammack was born in Longview, Texas to an artist mother and a businessman father. As a child he loved to get in the kitchen where his mother would ask "what do you want to make today?" His first cooking class was a cake decorating class in third grade. Jason was the only boy in the class. He always loved to cook, but it never occurred to him that it could be more than a hobby.

After studying history in college, Jason moved to Santa Fe to join his brother Calvin in the tile business. He and Lauren were married soon after and she joined him in New Mexico. After two years, he and his brother decided they’d rather be brothers than be in business together, so Jason began to look for something else. He joined a gourmet food store called CookWorks where he managed the gourmet food and kitchen equipment departments, and the celebrity cooking classes. Jason got to shop for and get in the kitchen with world renowned chefs and cooking teachers such as Mark Miller, Dean Fearing, Deborah Madison, Julie Sahni, Giuliano Hazan, Michael McLaughlin, Hugh Carpenter, and Rick Rodgers. People paid good money just to sit and watch these people cook. Jason would spend days prepping and cooking with them! Jason believes this is where his real education began!

Lauren soon became pregnant, so the couple decided it was time to return to Longview. Still not quite getting that food was his calling Jason took a job as a financial advisor. He was training in New York on September 11th , 2001 and watched the World Trade Center fall. His heart was never in the money business and knowing that he and his company would soon be parting ways, Jason began researching careers in food. What could he do in Longview, Texas? Here were the requirements: 1) that one could make a living doing it 2) it required no formal training 3) you could work for yourself and 4) (most importantly) that it required no startup money.

On the internet, he discovered Personal Cheffing. After researching everybody in the business, he found two spunky southern girls who had started something called Personal Chefs Network. That day, he scribbled down his first business plan which ended in having his own Food Market and Restaurant.

With PCN's help, he had the tools to get started. Cammack The Cook Personal Cheffing and Catering began and he soon had his first client. Using the resources and many of the recipes of PCN, Jason worked relentlessly at getting new business. From intimate dinners for 2 to banquets for 400, Jason always had PCN to rely on for advice and encouragement. They always came through and never let him down. Business grew and soon Jason’s dream came true.

On August 31, 2005 Cammack the Cook Food and Wine Market opened. In just a few short months it has become a favorite retail shop, restaurant and catering company in Longview. A unique culinary experience, Cammack The Cook gives the customer an upscale gourmet food and wine shop, a casual lunch, and an elegant dinner and wine bar.

Although he has come a long way from that fist client, Jason knows that he’s not done yet. One of his biggest dreams is to get a culinary program started at the local junior college so that local kids can learn a trade and go anywhere in the world. He doesn’t want to them to have wait until they are 30 (like he did) to realize that cooking can be more than hobby!
