Julie Anne Rhodes, owner of The Roving Stove personal chef service in Los Angeles, was born in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 4, she began making breakfast
in bed for her parents, and frequently made herself busy in the kitchen dreaming up all sorts of concoctions, much to her mother's amusement. Many happy hours were spent with
her Auntie Vera, who passed down numerous mouthwatering family recipes that she still uses today.
Julie Anne attended school in both Boston and New Orleans, where her love for food and her repertoire expanded. After a brief stint working for TWA as a sales
rep brought her out to the West Coast, she began her 15-year modeling career. Not long after that, she met her future husband, Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, at a party, and moved
to London in 1982.
Countless years touring with the band enabled Julie Anne to develop an appreciation for many different cuisines, picking up recipes and techniques in a number
of different countries and continents. The couple's penchant for entertaining their famous, well-heeled pals gave her plenty of opportunity to hone those skills amongst
friendly, food-savvy critics.
When their daughter Tatjana was born, Julie Anne became more interested in healthy eating. She was a founder member of England's Parents for Safe Foods, a
group of concerned high profile mothers whose intent was to put pressure on the government for safer food production and better labeling. She wrote part of the forward for their
book, The Safe Food Handbook, published in May 1990, and did several radio and television interviews to help promote that book.
After her divorce from Nick Rhodes, Julie Anne moved back to Los Angeles in 1998, where she worked as an actress for a short time. She threw dinner parties
regularly; and once she realized how much her friends seemed to enjoy her food, The Roving Stove personal chef service was born. Her business took off immediately under the
guidance and support of Personal Chefs Network, with Julie Anne planning and preparing weekly meals for a full roster of clients ranging from "A-list" actors to busy families,
young couples, doctors, writers, composers, professors, producers, musicians, and a lovely elderly lady she adores. She is an active member of Personal Chefs Network, and has
often mentored other new personal chefs. In April 2003 she was awarded the Golden Whisk Award for "Best Newbie Personal Chef of the Year" by her peers and the Network Advisory
Council of Personal Chefs Network.
Most recently, Julie Anne added catering small events from intimate romantic dinners for two, to weddings for fifty or more people to her ever-growing roster
of services. She is also writing her first in a series of cookbooks, in addition to several other projects she has in the works.
In her spare time Julie Anne attends various creative writing courses at UCLA Extension, is an active member of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts,
and travels with her daughter whenever their schedules permit. The honor of being the PCN Pacesetter for May 2006, five years after establishing The Roving Stove, reminds Julie
Anne of her favorite quote, "if you do what you love doing, you never work a day in your life'.
