Caterer of the Year: Karla Billdt

Karla joined Personal Chefs Network in November of 2004. She named her business Karla's Kreations for the simple reason that if the food business didn't work out she could do her second choice of quilting. She worked 6 months to create the perfect brochure and menu and to test as many recipes as she could. She soon realized that there was no perfect card or brochure and she tested so many recipes on her family that they were screaming for fast food. She soon sent out 100 home-made brochures with cover letters on what she was up to. The very next day a phone call came from that mailing and she booked a shower brunch for 50 people.

The shower was given by an interior designer who took Karla's food and made it beautiful on the table. The ooohs and aahhs of the attendees clicked in Karla's head and an idea was born: "To not only serve great tasting food that was different than what was served at all the other parties, but to make her food look beautiful and elegant." Karla's personal chef business was taking off slowly but the catering jobs kept coming in. "I wasn't serving the usual chicken wings, meatballs and mushrooms, and everyone wanted the great food set up in a beautiful and elegant style." Karla's Kreations has served parties as few as 6 attendees and as many as 250.

Karla feels truly blessed for being honored by her peers for something that she loves to do. Oh, and she won't be opening up a quilting shop in the near future!
